Ela: Hi Elizabeth, welcome to the show!
Elizabeth: Thank you for inviting me. It is a pleasure to be speaking with you today.
Ela: Can you tell me a little bit more about you?
Elizabeth: I’m the founder of The Institute for Achievement and Excellence. I help women quickly level up in 9 life areas so they can achieve their professional and personal transformation goals to secure leadership roles and business opportunities. I also help companies better educate and promote their female talent.
In many industries, women are still under-represented and find it challenging to get the sponsorship they need for their professional advancement.
After 30+ years in the corporate world and mentoring many along the way, I decided to package my expertise and experience. I offer masterclasses, tailored programs and coaching that are based on The Three Forces in Achieving Excellence – a framework containing 9 life areas that are crucial for achieving personal and professional fulfilment.
Ela: Where did the idea for your business come from ?
Elizabeth: During my career, I have worked in various male dominated sectors. I started in Banking, then Oil and Gas, then IT and finally Quality Assurance – specialising in corporate education. Even though I have lectured at colleges, spoke at conferences and trained for companies, the bar that I was measured with was usually; higher and stricter.
This and other challenges helped me to be better at what I did and how I wanted to show up (in any situation – professional or personal). It served me well because I was in a privileged position throughout my career to use what I learned to help others.
All my roles involved some aspect of corporate education and mentoring. Therefore I was always helping (predominantly women) achieve success and fulfilment in their professional and personal life).
Over time, a pattern began to emerge of the questions, concerns, issues and problems being discussed. It started to take shape and that shape spanned three points. One point was about the individual themselves, the other was the interaction that individual had with themselves and others, the final point was the things that affected their standard of living. This was how the Three Forces in Achieving Excellence was born.
I felt this knowledge was important to make available to many… both individuals and organisations, so I decided to create The Institute for Achievement and Excellence to do just that... and I have not looked back since.
Ela: How do you make a difference to women’s lives ?
Elizabeth: Maybe we can look at a few statistics first:
- Companies with broadly diverse leadership teams were 45% more likely to report growth in market share.
- Women make up just 15% of executive-team membership, and more than a third of companies have no women at all on their executive teams.
- 65% of women say lack of confidence is the reason women are underrepresented in management roles.
The difference – give them a roadmap to create what they want personally and get what matters professionally. They will have access to solid information, simple to implement strategies and tips that span 9 life areas so they can create that ‘elusive balance’ many seek. Think of it like a dimmer switch – the more life areas you switch on, the brighter you will shine.
Ela: Based on your experience working many years in a corporate world and now when running your own business, what are the most common issues women face in a workplace?
Elizabeth:
- Gender discrimination – in all forms especially the often overlooked – microaggression..
- Lack of representation at senior levels or adequate sponsorship to leadership roles.
- Lack of flexibility around working hours as women are still the major contributors at home re: children and elderly parents as well as feminine challenges such as monthly cycles and menopause.
Ela: What 4 steps can each one of us take today to become happier and more accomplished in professional life?
Elizabeth:
- Apply the 80-20 rule to your life and you will be ahead of the game.
- Don’t measure yourself against others, measure YOUR today against YOUR yesterday.
- Most importantly – start where you are, use the resources you have and do the best you can. Small consistent step can amount to great things.
- Never let anyone steal your dreams.
Ela: Elizabeth, it was great speaking to you today. And finally where can our listeners find you?
Elizabeth: You can go to my website which is https:.achievementandexcellence.com or go to my Personal LinkedIn profile, by typing elizabeth batalla
