Self discipline is a very important aspect of building healthy self-esteem.
People with low Self Esteem often say ‘’I can’t achieve my goals because I don't believe in myself’’.. It's worth pointing out that some of us really need our help with believing in themself but in some cases saying ‘’I’m not going to try as I can’t do it’’, is just a good excuse to not do anything, because we don’t feel comfortable, because change is scary..
Having self- discipline means being consistent in your actions. How consistent are we in our daily life? Are we able to complete our tasks from start to finish? Do we teach determination and discipline to our kids? Self-discipline and focus is something that we need to cultivate in our children. So how can we do it? One way of doing it is trusting yourself and demonstrating that you can count on yourself and commit to your tasks, no matter how small..
By showing your action focus attitude to your children you are teaching them to be consistent and disciplined. The easiest and most effective way children learn is by observing us. So by teaching them those skills, we are also empowering them to make decisions on their own, for example - to decide what is important and what is not important, what they want to focus on and why. Self -discipline is like an internal muscle of your will. The more you practise using it, the stronger it gets.
Building self-discipline is a crucial element to their personal development. People with low self esteem often agree to tasks they are not able to complete. They do it purely to get a compliment or approval from others. But that will be very temporary. Seeking approval from others can often slow us down in completing important tasks and reaching goals.
People with healthy self-esteem know themself enough to know when they are and when they are not capable of completing something. Promising others things we can't deliver on can make us feel very uncomfortable so courage and self-belief is required. We should always focus on things that bring us further forward in our lives, and completing these tasks first.
