Your brain is your creative servant. It is there to help you create your future experiences.
The brain is a mechanism wired to expect that what you anticipate will come true.
So your brain is invested in helping you prepare for the arrival of what you expect..
Your brain will help you generate thoughts and solutions he would never have believed you could come up with. If you expect to find a great job, then your brain will start to generate ideas about how to make that happen.
If you don't expect it, your brain will not do this work.
So It is not as simple as saying you want a better job. You have to literally expect and believe that you will find a better job in order for the brain to come up with a way to make that happen.
Many people go through life wanting lots of things but never believing they can really have them, so their minds never work on finding ways to bring those things about. As a result what they want never shows up..
And this dynamic relates to the idea that we only act on what we believe to be true.
Your brain would not work on helping you come up with solutions to things you didn't really expect. That would be a waste of its resources.
Changing what we anticipate starts with what we think. However, as we just discussed, our language-based thinking makes up only a small part of the mind's processing ability.
To really use the full power of your mind to change expectations, you need to use sensory based images as well to activate deeper, faster levels of processing.
Your first visualisation of something is like a light switch in your brain –
when it is turned on, it triggers the brain to generate a solution or the way to obtain what you are expecting.
Many people are so limited by their beliefs about what. It's possible that they never even flip the switch. This is why it is so vital to just think about the presence of what you want, instead of the absence of what you don't want.
When you think of the presence of what you want, your brain automatically starts to create that first visual image that flips the switch and turns on your mind as a solution generating process.
As you begin to shift your expectations and to actively direct your thoughts towards what you want, things that you never noticed before in your environment will show up and start to assist you in achieving your goal.
As we know, there was far more happening in our environment that we could ever possibly pay attention to. When you start to focus on something specifically, the brain selectively shifts its attention to finding the things in the environment that match up with what you are thinking about.
For example if you have ever purchased a new car you might have noticed that suddenly you see the same car everywhere..
When you activate an image in your mind and hold your attention on it for a little while you'll prime your brain to selectively notice those things that match up.
This is why people with depression often noticed more negative things in their environment and happier people noticed things to feel happy about. The pattern then feeds itself.
If you see depressing things, you feel more depressed, and then you will look for more depressing things. Wow. We all live with the illusion that we are aware of what is happening around us, the reality is that our limited attention capacity allows us only to see a small amount of what is around us.
Few people realise that they are active participants in creating what they see in the world and that's what they experience. You can prime your brain using visualisations to start attending to things you really want.
